5 Effective Packing Tips for Travel Bags to Keep the Contents Neat and Tidy

Travel bags are one of the types of bags that can be brought while traveling, in addition to suitcases and backpacks. These bags are generally in the form of a duffle bag, which is like an elongated box.

The holiday season has arrived, making you think about what clothes to bring when going home. If you only have a travel bag, you can store all your clothes in it.

However, storing clothes in a travel bag has a drawback, which is that sometimes the contents of the bag become messy when you take clothes out of it. This is exacerbated if you haphazardly arrange your clothes inside the bag. So, how do you pack a travel bag to keep its contents from looking messy? Let’s practice the following five tips

1. Roll Your Clothes Neatly

Rolling clothes before placing them in a travel bag is useful to keep the clothes in a neat condition when the bag is opened. Travel bags do not have a sturdy frame like suitcases, so clothes can easily fold and wrinkle on their own.

The method for rolling clothes is to fold them as usual first, then roll them up neatly. Additionally, rolled clothes can create more space inside the travel bag, allowing you to fit more items.

2. Use Packing Cubes

If you don’t want your clothes to mix with other items, like clothes with underwear, you can use packing cubes. Packing cubes are a set of fabric pouches designed to store different categories of items.

Packing cubes come in various sizes. There are larger sizes for clothing, medium sizes for thinner garments, and small sizes commonly used for underwear. There are also laundry bags that are useful for storing dirty clothes. You can even place your shoes and sandals inside a packing cube.

Organize your items into different categories within the respective packing cubes. Then, neatly arrange these packing cubes inside your travel bag.

3. Place the Heaviest and Least Frequently Needed Clothes First

If you’re not using packing cubes, arrange the heaviest and less frequently needed clothes first. Then, place the lighter and frequently used clothes closer to the zipper of the bag.

If you arrange them the other way around, your bag’s contents will become messy when you try to access the frequently used clothes because they will be at the bottom of the bag.

Heavy clothes that can be placed closer to the bottom of the bag include jackets, sweaters, blazers, jeans, and so on. Conversely, lighter clothes such as everyday shirts, shorts, skirts, hijabs, underwear, and the like should be placed closer to the top.

4. Utilize the Pockets Both Inside and Outside Your Travel Bag

If your travel bag has many pockets both on the outside and inside, make use of these pockets to store small and thin items. Keeping these items separate from your clothes will help you find them more easily.

Thin and small items include socks, handkerchiefs, small towels, lightweight underwear, and the like. Travel bags with fewer pockets, typically one small pocket on the inside, can be used to store handkerchiefs or small-sized accessories.

5. Don’t Overfill Your Travel Bag

Fill your travel bag according to its capacity so that it’s not too heavy and can be easily lifted. This can also be managed by not carrying too many heavy clothes and items inside.

An overly full travel bag can result in a messy interior and wrinkled clothes. Additionally, it may cause damage to the bag’s zipper.

Now, you shouldn’t be confused anymore when packing your clothes into your travel bag, right? So, go ahead and follow the tips on the list above!
